Many women around the world face a much different lifestyle than those of the west. A life devoid of choice, freedom, and happiness. Myanmar (Burma), a country ruled by a military junta & fraught with countless human rights violations, is home to thousands of women who are subjected to systematic rape and a life of sex slavery to appease members of this brutal regime.

Thanks to the Women's League of Burma and several US Senators (including Dianne Feinstein of California) perhaps we can shed some light of these horrific atrocities.

I find it a very cool cause to support!!!

Several women U.S. senators have formed a political group to highlight rights abuses in Burma.
Co-chair Senator Dianne Feinstein from California says the mission of the new group is to shine a light on what she called one of the most critical human rights situation in the world today.

The trafficking of women into sex slavery in Thailand and elsewhere in Asia continued to be a major problem. There was also a rise in prostitution inside Burma, as the government-promoted tourism industry tried to attract tourists through promoting the sexuality of young girls and women. In a speech to senior police officers, the secretary-1 of SLORC in March noted, "Illegal activities such as gambling and prostitution [are] on the rise...while brothels and disreputable houses [are] known to enjoy police protection."

The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, referring to the displacement of populations, noted the particular vulnerability of women and children. The Special Rapporteur noted the serious psychological problems facing women and children affected by the crisis. Abuses against women, especially in the course of violent events, reportedly ranged from having seen their children or husband killed to being raped and losing their homes and means of subsistence.
